Lemon Balm Dish Soap Bar

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

Swapping the squeeze bottles for bar soap to hand wash dishes can significantly reduce the number of plastic bottles you use.  Plus its all natural and works great!

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time:

45 minutes

Curing Time:

2+ weeks

Ingredients:

4.45 oz    Lye (sodium hydroxide) 9.96 oz   Water 14  oz      Beef Tallow 14 oz      Coconut Oil 1/3 cup   Dried Lemon Balm Leaves 1tbsp    Essential Oil of Choice - I like Rosemary with Lemon Balm

How to make:

Step 1:

Measure water into heat proof container.  Carefully pour in Lye and gently stir.  Step aside.  Note: you should wear gloves and eye protection when working with lye in a well ventilated area.

Step 2:

Heat Tallow and Oil on low heat until it reaches approximately 100degrees and is just melted.

Step 3:

Using Mordor and pedestal, ground lemon balm into a fine powder

Step 4:

Pour lye solution into melted oils.  Using immersion blender bring soap to trace.  Add small amount of trace mixture to lemon balm and essential oils to blend in then add back and blend in completely.

Step 5:

Pour soap mixture into molds.  After 24-48 hours unmold and place in cool dry area to cure for 2-4 weeks.

I use this wonderful bamboo brush and draining soap dish by my sink for this soap so its always ready to go!
